During the COVID crisis, most people fled city life. But a Lithuanian baby raised in Tennessee, Arturas Malinauskas (aka Party Arty), did the opposite. He moved to Boston for an in-person engineering role at Amazon Robotics. Subletting an apartment downtown, Arty wandered Boston's eerily quiet streets every day. With no one around, he noticed all sorts of odd details — tiny plaques, faded signs, quirky bricks. Like puzzle pieces, they begged to be put into a bigger picture of Boston's transformations.
More pieces led down rabbit holes with thousands of historic photos, maps, and memories. As the world reopened, a Boston team building event offered Arty a chance to share the stunning pictures he found with his Amazon coworkers. From a portable monitor duct taped to an iPad, his team was amazed to see centuries of Boston's transformations around them!
Since then, Arty dreamed of ways to share that magic with more people. Within a year he resigned to chase the American dream! Today Arturas leads Beaming Tours. He continues to work as an engineer, also starting the Breezey Machine Company to eliminate a leading source of injury in American manufacturing. These tours help pay rent while he invents new cool stuff in his bedroom workshop.
