Building Blocks Of Boston

The SMARTEST way to see Boston.

Boston's Best Sightseeing Tour

Stroll through the most beautiful parts of downtown and admire testaments to human creativity. This tour packs BIG pictures and BIGGER ideas into the best two hours you can spend in Boston.

The Beamcaster — a portable HD display your guide wheels along — layers restored archival imagery over the exact corners it was captured from, so Boston's groundbreaking history lands on the streets you're standing in rather than in a guidebook.

The walk

  1. Boston Common Visitor Center

We gather on Tremont Street and head up the hill — look for your guide holding a scroll.

  2. Soldiers and Sailors Monument

The high ground, and the first place the shape of the original Shawmut peninsula becomes obvious.

  3. Downtown

The most beautiful stretch of the walk, and the archival views people take longest to believe.

  4. Winthrop Square

A ten-minute breather with a restroom and air conditioning, under a square the city keeps rebuilding on top of itself.

  5. Old State House

We finish at the small brick building downtown grew up around.

On the route

Before you come

Who it's forHistory buffs, architecture lovers, and first-time visitors who want to understand Boston's twisted streets rather than just walk them.

PaceThe longest of our walks — just over two hours and 1.3 miles, with a gentle uphill at the start and a ten-minute break in the middle. Plenty of standing still while the archival views come up.

AccessibilityThe 1.3-mile route runs on downtown sidewalks with stretches of uneven brick paving, and starts with a gentle uphill toward the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. The brick sections can be avoided where needed and no stairs are required, so the route is navigable for wheelchairs and strollers. A 10-minute mid-tour break has a restroom and air conditioning at Winthrop Square.

What to bringComfortable walking shoes for 1.3 miles on city sidewalks and slightly bumpy brick paths. Water bottle on warm days, a layer year-round. There's a 10-minute mid-tour break with restroom + AC access at Winthrop Square.

WeatherDowntown Boston is significantly windier than other parts of the city due to tall buildings & the venturi effect — dress in layers. Tours are cancelled during intense rain or temperatures below 25°F, with a full refund issued.
